Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Alabama

when an heir cant be located

Im and as well as my sister are decendents to the heir, my father , to a portion of an estate in Alabama. We are not the excutors of the orginal estate. I have been unable to locate my father for the past 3 years since he left the nursing facilty that he was court commented to. Im not sure where to begin if i should retain a lawyer or private investigator. The excutor of the estate in AL and I dont have any information other than a name and birthday and a few details of his life. No SSN or DL number.

Check with the probate court in the county of your father's residence and see if they have a file. If not, you may need to hire an investigator.

There are investigators that specialize in locating unknown or missing heirs.

You'll also want the services of an attorney that handles probate in the county where your father resided. Counsel can check court records to see what may have been filed.
