In-patient Medicaid

My father is under inpatient medicaid in a nursing home. The home is in the name of my mother and father. My question is since my dad is in the nursing home by using inpatient medicaid. If my mother was to pass prior to my daddy will the home go to the state? What can be done to protect the home?
