Do I have any legal recourse to obtain my deceased father's birth certificate that is in the posession of my cousin?

Why not just order another death certificate from the Alabama Bureau of Vital Statistics? Find their web site at http://www.adph.org/vitalrecords/Default.asp?id=1560, cost for first copy, $15. If you go to the local county office where your father died, you may be able to leave with it over the counter. If you need assistance in a probate matter related to this, call us at (205) 991-5600.
