Minor Children's Inheritance

My mother's friend willed everything in her esate to my two minor children, ages 15 and 17. She did not set up a trust. What should I expect in terms of how they will get their inheritance?

Re: Minor Children's Inheritance

Assuming the children reside in Alabama, the Alabama Code requires that all minors have a Conservator who can receive inheritances, insurance settlements etc, provided the amounts are not insignificant. In this case, assuming the amount is over $25,000, each child will need a conservatorship established in the county of their residence. The conservator can he a parent but must be bondable, meaning they must have good credit. You will need to hire a local attorney to set this up for you. Contact the state bar or NAELA.org to find someone.
