Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Alabama
Sister died, no will
Sister died in Alabama with no will and huge debt. She was divorced, no children, no parents, 1 older sibling besides me. I'm retired, on limited income, and can't travel to AL to handle her estate. Do I have to file probate and be the representative? If I don't file, then what happens to her estate?

Re: Sister died, no will
If she had no will you couldn't do anything for her here anyway because you have to be a resident to serve as Administrator of an estate. If she had no assets to distribute through probate, only debts, then you wouldn't have much reason to go through the trouble. Is there some reason you wanted to probate her estate under the circumstances?
