Is there a time limit on paying out inheritance to an heir?

Although no "time limit" per se, assuming an Esate has been set up, Alabama law does require an annual accounting, even if only partial and if the 6 month claims period has already run, and assets are available for payment of an "inheritance", then it should probably be paid. If more than 40 days have passed and no Estate has been set up, then you may have to take steps to open an Estate yourself and force the issue. If you are out of state, you may want to consider retaining a local attorney to represent your interests in the estate.
