Legal Question in Workers Comp in Alabama

who assesses the independent medical exam doctors

surgery for a morton's neuroma has left my surgeon suspicious of crps. Once the self-insured co. got wind of the diagnosis from my case nurse--I am in a spiraling downhill battle. The pain-management specialist they provided(*&^%$@*&&) and the IME's were reports I did not even recognize as having been to. The pain mgmt doctor blamed menopause, my son in Iraq, and my shoes.I have never experienced such narcisist and condensending treatment and just have a gut feeling everything is not on th up-and-up. My question is how can I get information on penalties imposed on the self insured comapany, if any---and how can I research the doctors involved to see if they are indeed licensed by our state to practice, are qualified in the field I needed, and whether they have any complaints lodged against them. I need immediate medical attention as the crps is spreading, and yet they say I am fixed and stable with a 5% disability. They have set up an appt. with me at my store to introduce a ''stitz stool'' for me to lean on to do my job--I think they want me to walk off--they know I cannot stand except briefly and my doctor absolutely will not release me. Is this there way to stop time-loss? any info will help--thank you so much

Re: who assesses the independent medical exam doctors

Dear Injured Worker- The quick answer is nobody. You can complain to the DLI about how they treated you, but as to their "opinions" they are free to say what they are paid to say. I agree that it is an outrage, however you should concentrate on your own condidtion right now. If your doctor has not released you, you should definitely appeal any order that has been issued. Do you have a vocational counsellor. Who is the Self insured? Many details I need to offer help. If you wish to speak with me at no charge or obligation I would be happy to give you some pointers. I can be reached at [email protected].

Best Wishes,

Paul Bryan
