Copyright infringement

If I see a picture on the internet from a news article, can I copy that same picture and use it.

If I do so, am infringing on someones copyrights.

My feeling if it is on the net, it is free game.

May you copy a picture from a news article? Probably not as it likely is protected by copyright.

"If it is on the net, it is free game." Wrong, wrong, wrong! Just because copyright infringement is easy on the Internet doesn't make it right or legal. Protected is protected and you have to ask permission--and respect the answer if it is denied.
