I booked s hotel room with a travel agent. they charged my card. i want to cancel, they said I couldn't. The reservation date is february.
can't i just call my credit card company?

It depends on the details of the booking agreement. Read the fine print. It may say something like "non-refundable after [a certain date]." Ask them to point to where you agreed that the booking would not be refundable.
If they cannot substantuate this policy, yes, you may be able to dispute the charge with your credit card company.
