Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alaska

Collecting money owed from ex-friend who filed bankruptcy

I lent an ex-friend $3000 she paid me back $1200 in form of cash, check, and a 36'' TV that I accepted as $500 (it wasn't worth that). She than moved to Vegas, not telling me that she had filed for bankrupcy early in the year. She told me that she would continue to send me checks from Vegas. She was a long time friend so I trusted her and I took her word as a verbal agreement. I then started sending her emails asking for the money. I didn't keep all the emails, but I do have one stating that she will by me in November and it never came. Then she finally lets me know that she filed for bankruptcy and that if I need to stop contacting her and that I need to contact her lawyer if I had any questions. I have her lawyers number but before I call the lawyer I want to know if I should persue to get my money, it's a lot of money and I sure could use it.I didn't think that it was right that she did not inform me about it till months later and then no one contacted me. I went through a divorce and when my ex-husband filed bankrupcy anything we accumulated together they sent me court orders and the creditors got notified that they couldn't collect from my ex-husband.

Please help. I really would like to get my money back.

Unless there was a legal reaffirmation, you will likely not be able to collect. Her attorney will merely amend the BKY filing to include your debt.

How much is owed total? Written agreement?

Interest accrued?
