3rd Degree Assault

To Whom It May Concern:

I thank you for taking the time to reviewing my question. I am an aspiring lawyer. An acquaintance of mine has a hearing for third degree assualt. He cannont afford an attorney and he cannot speak proper english, he requested that i represent him. If i due the proper research regarding his case with the help of other attorneys, will i be able to represent him under these circumstances.

No. Only an attorney admitted to practice can represent someone else. If you do it, you will be guilty of practicing law without a license and that is a crime.

Re: 3rd Degree Assault

You can under certain circumstances:

1. you are supervised by an attorney

2. you are apprenticed or in your 3rd year of law school

It may not be fair, but the 'legal guild' is very powerful and you will be prosecuted for a felony if you take steps to act as your friend's attorney of record in this case.
