Legal Question in Environmental Law in Alaska

VANDALISM in my apartment

recently someone has broken my window. I was not at home and I dont know who did this. Ive told my landlord and filed a police report. Now my landlord wants me to pay for the broken window that i didnt do! Is this right? Shouldnt it be their responsiblity for the up keep of the place and to provide security in the units. Its like saying if a kid threw rocks at every window and broke it, the landlord is going to charge each resident. is this right? what can i do?

Re: VANDALISM in my apartment

Your question does not involve environmental law matters; however, depending on you lease agreement, the window may be the responsibility of your landlord. Review your lease or rental agreement if you have one. If it says you are responsible, then that is the end of it. If it says he is responsible or it is silent, get it fixed and send him the bill. If he doesn't pay for it within a reasonable period of time, go to the courthouse, ask for the "Small Claims" counter and get a small claims form. Fill it out and file it. Let a judge decide.
