Legal Question in Family Law in Alaska

Bastard

Can a child born a bastard, that is, parents not married at the time of birth, ever legally erase that label like if the parents get married shortly after the birth?

Re: Bastard

There are a couple of possibilities for getting the father's name on the birth certificate, but just marrying after the birth won't do it. You need to talk to a good family law attorney about this.

Re: Bastard

I don't know AK law so I can't address it.

It appears that there are a lot of "bastards" out there these days! I don't think it is a huge issue any more. In fact, most couples don't marry these days.

I'm shocked when someone under 30 actually marries the mother of their children. Why? I have no idea.

If the child had 2 parents listed on the original birth certificate these days, that is a LUCKY child.

Many birth certificates don't list a father -- even if the couple is married! Why? Apparently a lot of women get mad at their husbands during childbirth and refuse to list his name on the kid's birth certificate.

If you are a grandparent, you need to calm down or the parents are going to ban you for a relationship with this child. And, yes, then can do this and you can't do anything about it unless you can prove them unfit. Having a "little bastard" is NOT enough to prove them unfit!

I personally have not heard the term "bastard" used for a baby in many years!
