emancipation?

What rights does a fifteen year old have? Can she stay with her father, severing contact with her mother without legal consequence?

Re: emancipation?

If you arbitrarily refuse all contact w/ your mother, she could Petition the Court that she be relieved of her child support obligation, to you and that you are a "Person in Need of Supervision." Which means you could be placed in care, as a public charge.

However, in advance of your move, You could file a Custody Modification Petition WITH your father, requesting that the Court grant your father, sole custody of you and limited visitation to your mother, in your "best interests." Reasons? be discreet, but make it clear to the Court that your relationship with her is entirely too toxic, for you to continue to live with her.

Then, since you are 15, YOU and your mother would need to cooperate, or not, with each other, re whatever visitation, the Court may be able to impose, upon you. Child Support would be a separate matter.

Good luck,
