Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Alaska
In March of this year (2013) my husband & I purchased a 4 plex in. Originally the seller was to have a chimney chase built, but due to the winter weather it could not be done. The money for the work was not placed in escrow in the deal. Nowhere in the deal did it require us to have the work done by anyone specific, if at all. Two weeks ago I came home from work and discovered that the work had been done we did not call anyone nor did we even know that anyone was coming. Now the company that did the work wants us to pay him. We dont feel that we owe him anything we didnt call him. When I spoke with the owner of the company he was told that the money had been put in escrow, he also told me that the seller kept calling him asking when he was going to get the work done. We feel that we should have been called and given a heads up at which time we would have said No thank you. My question is if someone comes to my house and does work, without my asking or giving permission, do I owe for the work?

No, from what you say, it doesn't appear that you owe for the work. Tell the company which did the work that you didn't ask them to do it and that they should look to the seller for their pay.
I am wondering how they got into the building? Did the seller keep a key?
