Deportation
My question is if an immigrant in the U.S. that has become an American citizen, can they be deported if they have just
one felony on their record due to heighted security after 9/11 and new state laws?

Highly unlikely. After 5 years of having acquired US citizenship by naturalization it is extremely hard to lose citizenship and become deportable. I only know of one instance where this has happened. In that instance the person was a Nazi war criminal that had provided false information on his application to naturalize.
