Can I be sued for selling a stolen item even if I payed for the item and did not know it was stolen ?

Can you be prosecuted? Yes, but if the prosecution can persuade the judge or jury, beyond a reasonable doubt, that you knew it was stolen, you would be acquitted.
Do you mean can the owner sue you? If the owner can establish that he/she/it was damaged by you actions, and that what you did was negligent. In other words the question would be whether it was unreasonably carelesss of you to not know that it was stolen.
