If an artist is under a contract obligation to a business and the business breaches contract by not paying the artist as indicated in the contract, is the contract considered null and void?

The contract is not null and void, the business that doesn't pay you is in default and in breach of contract as you stated. Now the question is, is their any legal reason for not paying you, and what are your damages as a result of their default.
