Legal Question in Business Law in Arizona
Attorney Dropped Case - No Refund?
I hired an attorney and was quoted a FLAT fee of $4,200. which I paid up front. Maasen & Assoc, appeared reputable and Scott seemed kind. He told me not to worry, to call any time. Months later, his assoicate called to say he was taking over my case. All that had been done was filing for a continuance for my hearing. He was very rude. I called the firm and left a msg. for Scott explaining my situation. Scott called me at back weeks later and told me he was dropping my case and I would get my refund in the mail. I told him that was not my intention, that I still wanted him to represent me. He said that if I wasn't ok with his associate, I could not be ok with him. Months later, I rec'd an ITEMIZED list via mail showing charges for each phone call, voicemail, etc. totaling MORE than the $4,200! They did nothing and are refusing me a refund! My current attorney says that they do owe me at very least 90% of my money back and I've since spoken to other attorneys that say the same. I've filed a complaint with the State Bar Association and I'm told that maybe, eventually, I may get my money back. This is an outrage. I'm not rich and now I'm out almost $10,000 and I've not even made it to court yet. I'd really apprecaite any advice.
