Legal Question in Business Law in Arizona
Defamation by employer?
A former employee told my former employer that I said slanderous things to her about them which I did not say, all of which happened before my termination.
Can my former employer sue me for defamation?

Re: Defamation by employer?
You always can be sued for defamation, but, in order to prevail, the former employer would have the burden of proving (1) that you said or wrote things (2) that were not true, and (3) that resulted in damages to the former employer.
In many cases, even if the slanderous statement can be proven, it is difficult to show damages.
