Legal Question in Business Law in Arizona

Independant Contractors Vs. Employee

I am about to hire a bunch of private music teachers as contract employees and don't know if I can/should give them a handbook listing my company's policies on drug use, dress, harassment, etc. Can I give them expectations in the form of a handbook or should I just list them in their contract or what? I need to protect myself but don't know what my parameters are since they will not technically be employees. Thank you so much!

As to the policies, this is a labor/employment law question. You can re-submit in that category. As to how to protect yourself in maintaining them as independent contractors, not employees, you do not inquire. Make sure you take precautions and have a good contract with the teachers as well as a disclosure to the customers.

In short, it's good to have a manual, but then make sure it is done right. You will be married to it as well. Make sure you have worker's compensation waivers. See an attorney.
