Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Arizona
Can you tell me what the statue of limitations is in Phoenix Az for filing a police misconduct claim or a civil suit against the police department for excessive force and unlawful incarceration. And how I would go about starting this procedure for a inmate that is still in jail.

You have 1 year in AZ to file a claim against the government or its municipalities. In addition, you MUST file what is called a Notice of Claim with the appropriate persons/entities, such as the City of Pheonix, the Police Chief, etc., giving the facts of what happend and an amount for which your claim can be settled for. This must be done within 180 days of the injury, or you CANNOT bring the suit, even if you are within the 1 year statute of limitations period.
I strongly suggest that you contact a lawyer to help you with this matter.
