Legal Question in Construction Law in Arizona
I am doing an extensive remodel on a four-plex. My original General Contractor and I have parted ways prior to completion of the job. I have paid the General over half of what he says is owing to him. I have requested lien waivers from the General for those sub-contractors that he hired i.e., plumber, general handyman, etc., and proof of payment for materials he bought, i.e., windows, closet doors, etc. The General refuses to provide these waivers for me claiming that I only need a waiver from him which he has provided with each payment that I have given him. How can I protect myself if he has not paid these subs? By the way, the General and I DO NOT have a written contract nor was he clear on his charges verbally (I know, I was stupid, but its done).
Thank you,

He is right; you do not need liens on the subcontractors. Just pay him what is owed for the work performed thus far and part ways.
