Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Arizona

I am 150 days late on a credit card with a $1,600 balance. G.C., a "pre litigation" company has contacted me and offered to settle for around $650,or else...I absolutely don't have the money. Im collecting unemployment and have been laid off for 6 months. I have small children and my wife had her hours cut to part time. I have NO other debt/assets. I own a car which is paid for. Can an amount of my wife's small check be garnished, which we literally survive on? I have offered to pay the amount in full with my tax returns for 2009, that's the way i have paid $20,000 off in debt the last 4 years. But the rep. said no i cannot, and to ask everyone i know for $650.00. This is disappointing since this is the LAST of all our debt, and such a small amount. We didn't want to come this far to recovery just to be sued in the end when we CAN pay it all soon.

As they say, you can't get blood from a turnip. If you don't have the money, they can't get the money. I don't know what to tell you. They could garnish your wife's paycheck. Otherwise if they are not willing to wait for you next tax refund then I don't know where they think they will find the assets.

Hang in there, and best of luck!
