Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Arizona

Bill Collector Calls

How can I stop bill collectors from calling? I am not the person that owes the debt, nor do I know that person, but telling them that does not stop the calls. What can I do?

Re: Bill Collector Calls

If possible try to find out the name and address of the company. Then send them a certified letter instructing them to remove your number from their records.

Debt Collectors are regulated by a federal law called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. This law protects you, as a consumer, from being harassed from unlawful debt collection practices.

However, the FDCPA is a very technical law, and requires specific knowledge to be able to effectively apply its protective sections to your individual situation.

Consider making an appointment with a consumer attorney to review your situation.
