Cancelling a contract

I am trying to cancel a contract with an alarm company and the term ended April 1, 2007. I was told that it automatically renews and they are holding me liable until April 1, 2008. Is there a way to get out of this?

You need to review the agreement, and whether you were ever provided with a copy of the terms of the agreement. Check for any notice provisions.
