Overpayment Collection

I was contacted recently by a collection agency that claimed I received an overpayment from a company that I worked for 4 years ago. They said that an additional paycheck was received by myself through direct deposit after I left the company. I don't remember receiving an overpayment and I'm not sure how to go about handling the collection agency. Can this company actually wait almost 4 years to notify me of this? The company I worked for was in Arizona and now I live in California, can they still collect in the new state?

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the statute of limitations passed. dont pay it.
