Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Arizona

I received a message via mail yesterday from a collection agency in Houston TX. It states the client is the legal successor of Hollywood Video and states I have an amount due of $9.58.

I always pay my bills so I 99% it is incorrect. Here's the thing Hollywood Video store I used closed up I don't even know for sure but at 3yes and more likely 5 yrs ago and what little I do recall is I had not even rented from them for a year before they did close.

So my question is as follows:

1) I know I have the right to request in writing that they provide me with a record of said transaction. However is there a statue of limitations on this debt and if so should I not request record but simply send letter stating I don't owe debt and pointing out I had not heard from them for all these years.

Thank you,

Harlan Michael

In Arizona a debt collector must sue on a debt within six years of the default. However, they can continue to ask you to pay on it indefinitely.

I'd suggest you contact an attorney for a free consultation regarding this debt collector's conduct.
