Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Arizona

Still Responsible for debt?

I was divorced and my ex received the home in the divorce agreement. I signed a quit claim deed and it was filed with the county. He never refinanced the home in his name only. One year later the house ( and a second mortgage) was foreclosed on. Now I have several negative marks on my credit report. He signed the divorce and agreed to be fully responsible for the debt. How is it still haunting me? What can I do, other than the items having to do with the house my credit is clean...but I can't get loans because of it.

Re: Still Responsible for debt?

Contact all three reporting agencies and have your decree attached to your file. Unfortunately, by giving a Quit Claim Deed to your ex you gave up your interest in the house but remained liable for the mortgage. You can provide a copy of your decree when applying for loans.
