roommate attempt at collection

lived with GF. she paid 4k for my school. we had no verbal or written contract. she says i paid her 1k. and now says i owe 3k plus attny fees and court costs. i was served with paperwork to appear and defend myself. should i ignore? should i hire a lawyer? its my word against hers. what are my chances?

If you ignore the lawsuit you will lose by default. She will get a judgment and can garnish your wages and bank accounts. Never ignore a lawsuit that is filed against you.
