Need help to stop harassment from a 12 year old debt

I need to figure out how to write a cease and desist order to

stop a company from trying to collect on a twelve year old debt. I have dealt with three different ''collection'' agencies over the years. I received no notifications or billings for three and a half years (Jan. 1990 to July 1993)and then for four years(July 1994 to Aug. 1998). I have demanded proof of debt and been denied access and am unable to secure documents. In July 1994 I even agreed to a compromised settlement but when I telephoned the next day I was told by a ''supervisor'' that the person I had been dealing with was not ''authorized'' to make any agreements. Any ideas?

You can review the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act to clarify what creditors can and cannot do in their attempts to collect a debt. You should start a papertrail of your requests for documentation from the creditors. In your letter to the creditor, request documented verification of the debt and give them a 30 day timeline to provide the documentation. Also tell them that if the documentation is not provided within 30 days, that you will assume the debt is not valid and demand that any adverse credit reporting by the creditor be immediately corrected. Good luck.
