Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Arizona

Being sued for a debt

My son (a minor) answered our front door today, to have someone leave a summons with him. I was home, but asleep at the time.

I'm being sued for a past credit card debt. I am aware it is very past due, but due to poor health, I'm currently on disability on my resources are extremely limited. I have NO legal experience & need advice on how to handle this. The debt is a few years old. I know that I have others, thankfully they have not yet gone to court. But obviously I would need legal advise on how to handle those as well. My main issue however is my summons. I'm scared! Don't know if I should go to the hearing. I don't want them to win by default either! PLEASE please help!! ANY advise is appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Re: Being sued for a debt

You MUST file an Answer to the lawsuit or you WILL lose by default. I strongly suggest that you see an attorney. There is really no advice I can give you without knowing more details about this debt and about your situation. Bankruptcy might be an option, but I have no idea without knowing more.

Don't delay. If you lose this lawsuit, they can garnish your wages and bank accounts.
