Many prosecutors will permit probation for first offender shoplifting. Some prosecutors will allow a first offender shopliter to participate in a diversion program. It is always a good idea to be represented by an attorney when charged with a criminal offense. A conviction for shopliting can have future adverse effect on you and you should discuss this with a criminal lawyer.
