Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona
Animal Cruelty
I am getting ready to go on Trial for charges of animal cruelty. I do not have an attorney and am representing myself. I have searched the web on the laws for cruelty, trying to gather information to build a case. Could you please advise.
I was the owner of a canine. Another was brought to me and was ill when I recieved him. He could barely bark and was very frail. I was taking care of this animal when I was visited by a sheriff and was cited for failure to provide medical attention to animals. My other canine being in good health. The sheriff gave a time frame of 24 hours to give this animal medical attention. I had to work and left this up to my spouse. He was not cited because he was not home at the time. The sheriff took the canine into his custody to get proper medical attention. Shortly after recieving this animal my spouse was layed off from his job. We had just purchased a home and land, not being able to make the payments, losing our home. I couldn't afford to give this animal treatment, having a hard time putting food on the table for your 2 children. Do I have a chance of winning this case?

Re: Animal Cruelty
At the outset, let me say that no one can predict your chances of winning. However, the assistance that an attorney can provide will likely increase your chances. Its tough to give an opinion without review the police reports, etc. Please consider hiring counsel as this is charges carries up to 6 months in jail and a $2500 fine.
