Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona

Hello, I was arrested for shoplifting here in Gila county Payson Az yesterday. I was accosted at the door, the goods never left the store the manager tried to apprehend me, but I left. I was just blocks from the store and I called my local PD as soon as I got home. I told the person what I had done gave my name and other pertinent information. The officer who gave me the citation (13180501) told me he was pleased with my willingness and had never encountered a suspect like me. II have a court date on May 30th 2012 here in Gila county Payson Az. I was hoping you could tell me if I can expect to do jail time. Thank you very much. Sharon.

Simple shoplifting is a class one misdemeanor with a possible sentence up to six months in jail. Most often a shoplifting conviction results in a fine, restitution and sometimes a counseling class. It is unusual to receive a jail sentence for shoplifting unless you have an extensive criminal history, then the prosecutor may seek some jail.
