Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona

what defines a private civil matter in a crime?

Hello,I know someone that is in trouble. The person worked for a company and fell under the temptation of stealing money, $250.00. On the night this person was caught with the cash the person was brought to bosses office with someone from thier theft control. After a little while, someone came into the office with printout with person's employee ID on it.Boss showed person the printout for a bit and then drew it back. This place of work does not empty thier registers out until the end of the night and allow others to use the same register as other employees

use. Person was told that if person signed printout and give apology letter to company for the 'crime' then matter would be between just company and person.Boss knew person was heading going into military and at 18 person felt trapped. Person wanted its chance to enter the military and is niave. Person asked if anyone else, the law, etc. was going to be involved. The boss said no.So, this person signed what boss asked and worded apology letter as prompted to do.Once apology letter along with signing the computer printout was signed,to this person's amazement a police officer was waiting for this person outside the door.

The scenario you pose is a crime. The boss' agreement is not binding upon the police or the State. A criminal prosecution will likely occur. I have successfully defended numerous employee thefts, the most recent of which was over $100,000 and the case was later dismissed. If you are in need of representation, please contact me.
