Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona
deportation question
what does it mean when someone is held on bond for drug charges, but has a hold requested by the us immigration office? Does this automatically mean that they will be deported no matter what? Would hiring an attorney make any difference in this case? Could an attorney help this person? Even if this person has been deported once before? What happens to illegal immigrants when they are caught in the US again, after having been deported before?

Re: deportation question
Simply because INS has placed a hold on a person, does not mean that they will automatically be deported. This is a federal issue. Typically, in a state drug case where a bond is set, the INS can ask that the individual be held for federal proceedings once the drug case is over. Also important are the circumstances of the prior deportation. I have handled many major drug cases that have immigration implications and can tell you that a good lawyer can make a significant difference.
