Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona
Can they fire me?
I have a felony on my record for 2nd degree theft ; it happened in 2002. In 2004, I was hired at a company here in Arizona. They did not require job applications to be filled out (they used resumes) so therefore I was never asked to disclose my felony. Now, 2 1/2 years later they are asking all employees to fill out applications ; can they fire me now for answering yes to the felony question? I have been here 2 1/2 years without any incident, and I am a good employee. I did not lie about my record, they never asked or did a criminal background check.
Thank you

Re: Can they fire me?
Generally, unless you have an employment contract or work for the government, you can be let go for any legal reason. Illegal reasons would include letting you go because of your age, a disability, or your race, religion, or sex. So unless you have a contract or your employer is the government, they can let you go if they want to.
