Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona
I purchased some materials and aslo assited for hire the removal of some materials from an individuals private lands. For this to be done, special permits were obtained in the landowners name by the landowner. I expressly asked each time materials were removed if they were on the individuals private land and was assured that the materials were, by the land owner. The landowner is now under investigation of theft of government property for materials removed from property owned by the government that is next to his. I have been contacted by an investigator and was asked to come in and answer questions. The materials are also specially proteted by state and federal law, and can only be removed with a permit. I don't know now if the land owner was honest with me re: his property boundries. What steps should I take to protect myself and my rights. I have been stalling on the interveiw and am not sure if I should talk to the investigator.

When you are a suspect of criminal activity, it is never a good idea to discuss the case with law enforcement officers before consulting with a qualified criminal attorney. Even if you believe you did nothing wrong, you should speak to a lawyer first. The primary reason for the law enforcement officer talking with you is to gather evidence so that they can solve the case. This could lead to you being charged with a crime.
