Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona

Shoplifting, first offense...

Basically my friends stole two bottles of Jack Daniels from Walmart. They didn't catch us until later. When the officer asked if we had anything illegal in the car (it was one of my friends car) I immediatley told the deputy that we had two bottles of JD (I was and still very ashamed of this). I have never done anything bad in my life prior to this. She marked it as a ''0 violation'', first offense, criminal. We're going to court this Wensday. What am I going to expect they judge will give me?

Procedurally, you will only be asked how you plead on Wednesday. Most likely, the judge will only accept a plea of not guilty. The wise thing to do would be to plead not guilty right off the bat, or better yet hire an attorney to do it for you.

As far a possible punishments for this crime, it unfortunately depends. Each jurisdiction has its own sentencing guidelines. It appears, however, that the State may not even be able to prove its case against you. I highly suggest seeking counsel on this matter.

Feel free to email me directly if you wish to discuss this further.
