Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona

Theft and Forgery

I am a former cfo accused of theft and forgery. Accused thefts involved almost $800k in total. Long story, but I honestly did not committ crime. Owner instructed me to pay myself over a 2 year period as compensation for job well done. Total compensation including amount in question is in normal range of salaries of cfo's in industry and company size. I even claimed income on my tax return, never covered the fact of paying money to me as owner had access to all banking information the entire time. I am a ''seasoned'' cfo with international travel and business experience. If I was truly going to steal money, I sure would not have done it as visibly as this.To protect face with business partner that did not know about our arrangement, former boss (owner) claims I was not authorized to receive money. After being fired while on vacation), I was never allowed to obtain my files with ''proof'' of authorization, now owner claims authorization never existed. I only have $200k of money saved for possible restitution - even though I committed no crime. I have hired an attorney, but I would like additional advice. Realistically, what am I facing? I have no prior arrests or record.

Re: Theft and Forgery

The question is you pose is fair one, but not one that can be readily answered without having further details. There are many things I would like to know such as who 1) who is the prosecutor 2) what are the exact charges 3) where does discovery stand? I ask these questions as I have defended numerous embezzlement and other complex white collar cases. I'd be willing to chat with you, if you'd like, to be able to better answer some of these questions. Feel free to call me or send me an email with your contact information. If you want to set up a face to face meeting, that too would be fine. -JL-
