Legal Question in Criminal Law in Arizona

So me and two.other friends were riding with one of.my.friends stepdads and we got pulled.over they found and eighth.in the car and a dirty.bong.that was covered in dirt and no stem piece but noone confessed and were all minors the dad got let go.but.we all go.charged.with possession and paraphernalia Cuz the weed was infromt of my friends seat nd the.bong was in front of me. I.had nothing on me so.how can I.get charged?

The answer depends on the particular facts. I would have to see the police reports to be able to more accurately answer your question. However, you don't have to be in direct possession of an item to be charged with legally possessing it: there are two types of possession. One is actual possession and the other constructive possession. As always, the answer to such questions depends on the facts, and I am sure there is more to the story, at least from the police officer's perspective, true or not.
