"Prohibited person" usually refers to a felon in possession of a firearm/dangerous instrumentality in the federal system. If this is your question, the penalty depends upon the prior criminal history and the type of firearm. The average penalty for someone with only one prior conviction is often 24 months. In the state system the answer will be different.
