Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona
I adopted a dog from the humane society. My husband and i got pregnant and decided it wasn't a good decision to keep the dog. We gave the dog away but not any paperwork or anything and did not change the dogs owners at the humane society. Not long ago, we got a call from the humane society saying that the dog had been running loose for about 3 days and was very skinny. The people who brought him in had been caring for him and trying to feed him and said as many times as he'd run outside, he'd never left the yard. When I picked up the dog, the worker at the humane society advised that I not give the dog back. about two days later, the people called and told me he'd only been missing for one day. At that point I'd had him for about five days. They are threatening to take me to court for the return of the dog. Can they do that? Especially if all his paperwork is in my name and they failed to even get his shots after about a year?

It is doubtful and they might be able to be charged with animal abuse. What proof are they going to have that it was their dog?
