Bills prior to marriage
The person that I plan to marry has many bills, i.e. hospital, doctor bills. How to I protect myself that I am not responsible for any of these bills prior to the marriage. Should we marry can they take my assests to pay these bills?

Re: Bills prior to marriage
Thank you for your inquiry. Generally speaking, assets and debts from prior to the marriage are considered sole and separate property. To provide additional protection, you can sign and record a prenuptial agreement setting forth the specific debts, and putting the creditors on notice of the intention to keep the debt separate.
