Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

Child custody amendment

My ex-husband has filed a petition to change child custody from shared to him only. He and the child are in Arizona and I am with my Navy husband in Okinawa, Japan. Can I assign a Power of Attorney to my sister or mother-in-law to represent me? I have 20 days to respond to the petition. Can I do this with a personal letter or do I need a lawyer?

Re: Child custody amendment

No you cannot allow another family member to represent you, but you can download the forms to file an answer and notify the court that you are out of state. The court will most likely allow you to appear telephonically.
