Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

Child support lowered

My friend is paying support on three children, only two of which are still under 18. The amount was supposed to be lowered when the oldest of the three turned 18. He turned 18 two years ago. He was advised that he must be represented in a court by an attorney and cannot represent himself. He cannot afford an attorney. Is there anything he can do?

Re: Child support lowered

There is no reason why you have to hire an attorney to file a request to modify child support. You can represent yourself.Contact the Clerk of the County Court where your last support order was entered and ask for forms to modify the support. There may be a small charge for the forms. If it was Maricopa County, you can get the forms for free online. Go to www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov/lawlibrary/index.asp

and click on "Court Forms,Rules" on the left index. Complete the necessary forms, mail the originals and a set of copies to the Court with the filing fee and a return envelope, and have your ex-wife served with another set of copies.
