child support for past 10 years

if i have located my childs father(my child is 10 now), how far back can child support be collected? whose laws do i go by?

should i consult an attorney?a paternity suit is in progress.i told him of the pregnancy.child support enforcement couldn't find him upon the birth or thereafter.i have done research via the internet,found him & passed on that information. i moved to illinois while pregnant.this is a non public assistance case.any help is appreciated. thanks

If you live in AZ. you can collect child support from a father and go back 3 years. So times you can back back more than 3 years if you can prove certain elements to the court (ie. father avoided service, etc.) but this is very difficult. The court usually goes back 3 year. If there was already a court order for child support than we could collect the whole amount owed. It doesn't matter where you live you can still collect support from the father.
