Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona
Child support after 18
I am a wife of a man who has a son in Arizona. We live in Iowa now and we wanted to know what the obligation is for paying child support after he is 18, if there is any? I know some states you have to pay while he goes to college.
My other question is for financial reasons I have to start working does my income count towards his (my husbands) child support revisions?

Re: Child support after 18
Arizona child support stops at 18 IF the child is out of high school. If not out of high school, it stops at date of graduation. It never goes past 19, and none for college.
You may need to FILE PAPERS to make sure it stops on time.
We can absolutely help.
I can explain the procedures better by phone or in person. As you can imagine, there is too much to cover via e'mail. We offer free 1/2 hour consultations, in which we can discuss the matter in more detail.
Please call me directly to discuss the specifics of your case, or contact my assistant Alicia or my paralegal Jennifer to schedule a free 1/2 hour consultation.

Re: Child support after 18
Support ends when the court says it does. The age of majority may dictate this but anything in the agreement will take precedence.
A parent's obligation to pay child support normally terminates when the child turns 18 and graduates from high school, turns 19, dies or is emancipated (whichever occurs first). However this may not apply to a child who has severe special needs that cause him or her to remain dependent past the age of majority. In addition, even though the obligation to pay child support terminates, you may still have to file a petition to terminate child support and vacate any wage assignments that are in place.
