Legal Question in Family Law in Arizona

Collecting back child support from an out of state ex spouse

My ex wife deserted me with 3 children while we were living in the sate of Virginia 5 years ago. I was granted a divorce based upon willful desertion. As part of the decree my ex was to pay a token child support of $66 for each child until the age of 18. As she fled to the state of Folorida, I never received a dime.

Two years ago, I was relocated to Colorado where I now reside with our now 18 year old daughter. The youngest who is now almost 17 decided to live with his mother in New York. She and I had a verbal agreement as to me voluntarily paying her some support while the boy lived with her.

Now, she has changed her mind about cooperating and has sought child support through Colorado Support Inforcement.

What can I do? Can I get the back support due me or use the amount to offset any assesment made by the State of Colorado? Do I hire an attorney in New York and sue her for the back support and the other breaches of the divorce decree? I also have all my cancelled checks for the money I sent her the past 2 years for the care of the youngest boy. Are they any help to me in the support hearing?
